Special Visitors to Room 14

On Friday we had some special visitors to our class, three very tall Japanese students, visiting Hamilton from Tokyo.  Thier names were Taiga, Yutaro and Ryo.  They joined in with our classroom learning programme, but also taught us a few things about Japan.  We also did some traditional NZ things with them, like teaching them the NZ haka!  We also taught them some of our favourite songs and played with the Rakau sticks. (A traditional Maori stick game.)  One thing we were amazed with was how fast they could complete our weekly times table test.  We are expected to complete this in 5 minutes.  They finshed in 1.20!  Thats so fast!!  Check out the photos of our day below:

Statisitcal Investigations

In room 14 at the moment, our focus for maths is statistics.  We are currently learning about how to conduct a statistical investigation.  We have all chosen topics to do with food items in our fridges to find out more about the differences and similarities we have when it comes to food.  Today we gathered information from our class mates about topics we have chosen (Such as what brand of milk do you buy) for our statistical investigations.  Here are some photos of us doing this:

The Easter Bunny

Look who paid us a visit today!  The Easter Bunny!  (A.K.A. Rhiannon).  The Easter Bunny came in this morning to promote the Easter Egg Raffle the PTA has every year.  The Easter Bummy is asking for any Easter egg treat donations to be brought to the school office so the PTA can create Easter baskets to raffle off at the end of the term.

Does the Easter Bunny look cute!

Swimming sports was so fun I came 3rd place in one of my races and the other I came last. My favorite part was when it was my turn to race because I was waiting so so so long because my race was last. I learnt how to do  breaststroke and backstroke. I had a good time at water world and in the outside pool.

Green Fingers

Today we had our second meeting with Mrs Boyce. We planted some new plants that you will see in the pictures below.

Swimming Sports

On Wednesday this week we had our senior swimming sports at Te Rapa Pools.  We had a great day!  here are some of our reflections!

What we found most challenging:
(Victoria) The breast stroke race - length
(Debbie) my fluterboard race because there wasn't enough space
(Tyla) I found not knowing where I had to sit challenging
(Jack) The relay was challenging for me as we were racing and trying to keep up with the other classes
(Christian)  Showing resilience while waiting for my race

What we enjoyed the most:
(Titus) Completing my races as they were challenging for me and i was proud of myself for completing them.  I also enjoyed the free time cause it was fun!
(Manx)  I enjoyed the free time swim because i got to play shark tag with my friends
(Mckaia)I enjoyed the free swim in the outside pool because it was freezing, and there was the slide.  and i enjoyed my races - I came third in all my races.
(Leah) My favourite part was the free swim because i had finished all my races and i didn't have to be nervous anymore!

Some thoughts:
(Ben)  it was really challenging and i had lots of fun!
(Fin) i was really proud of getting the time 0.19.90 in length freestyle and winning the race.

We are excited to be Quad Blogging! This involves a four week cycle with four schools anywhere in the world who blog. Each school’s blog is the focus for one week out of four. Each school in the Quad spends some time visiting the blog of the school for that week, leaving comments etc. After that week, another one of the four schools becomes the focus. Engagement and motivation is raised as children become the teachers and not just learners, teaching others about their culture and school life.
Last week our blog was being commented on by the other three schools.  This week we are commenting on Tanfield Lea Community Primary School's blog - this is a class of year 5 students.  You can find their blog by following the link below:

Tabloid Sports Day

On Friday we had a fantastic Tabloid sports day. It's such fun because we play lots of fun team building games, like egg and spoon races and parachute games. We end the day with a tug of war competition where classes verse each other, and house teams verse each other. Here is a video of Room 14 against Room 15.We made it through to the finals, but unfortunately lost out to Room 13 this year.  But we had heaps of fun trying!

We ended the day with a teacher’s verses parent’s tug of war competition.  It was a very close match – the parents were so strong!  But the teachers were able to pull it back just in time! Check out the video below:
