Room 14 Hunt The Pirates Gold!

On Thursday room 14 went on a treasure hunt to find the gold that Captain Cutlass had hidden somewhere around our school.  He had left us with a map with clues using compass bearings.  We had to use what we had learnt about the compass to follow the bearings and paces to find the hidden treasure!

Have a look at the photos below and read our comments to see how we did!

Jarrod C's Group
It was hard because we kept mucking up the directions, but it was a good challenge.

Edward's Group
We found it tricky at room 12's door to scull and cutlas because the directions were a bit confusing, but we showed resilience.

Bronte's Group
We found it a bit tricky because the directions were tricky and we kept bumbing into things!

Tiana's Group
We did well because we found 5 of the clues, and we worked as a team.

Jordan's Group
We found it a good challenge, a little hard because we kept mucking the compass directions up.

Shreeya's Group
We found it an average challenge.  We didn't like it when we got to the field because our map blew away!

Karyna's Group
We found it tricky, and it was quite hard.  the wind made it more difficult!

Rebecca's Group
We found it a bit hard but we did great because we found 7 of the clues.

Compass Reading

On the 26th of June, we had a mini hunt with the Compass.
We had to use the Compass housing to find the right way to go and then we had to take as many paces as one clue said 50 paces.
I hope that everyone can do the pairate treasure hunt on the 28th of June.
Here are some photos that Mrs Gunn took.

Peered reading is when we come together once or twice a week and the tutee reads a book to the tutor. (Rebecca and Luisa)

What we like about peered reading and what we think the benefits are:
Helps you to be a better reader (Chakyla and Koston)
Learning new words that I didn't know before (Ethan and Edward)
Benefits are that my buddy can practise reading (Ethan and Edward)

Arbor Day 2012

On Friday 1st of June the middle and senior enviro agents and green fingers club went to a reserve by the zoo where you plant native trees! What I found really hard was to dig the holes and to take the trees out of the plastic pot and to loosen the roots! The most fun thing about Arbor Day was probably getting to have two susseges and one juice! But I just like being out doors!
At the end of Arbor Day we got to take home two Kowhai trees and I am the one holding the Kowhai tree in the picture.I had two Kowhai trees so I donated one to the class!
Hopefully this is what our class Kowhai tree will look like!
